How is it to talk to a therapist? How do I recognise if I am stressed or not?

Don’t Stress, Take It Easy!

Do you feel overwhelmed? Irritated or short tempered? Do you notice changes in your sleeping and eating habits?

You may be experiencing stress.

  • It is not always easy to realise that one is stressed.
  • People react to stress differently.
  • Stress affects us in a number of ways, both physically and emotionally
  • Family, relationships, work, financial worries, are examples of what can cause stress.

When you are stressed:

  • You may experience different feelings, including anxiety, irritability or low self-esteem, which can lead you to become withdrawn, indecisive or tearful.
  • Stress can also affect your sleep, your digestive system, and eating habits

We all feel stressed sometimes. It is part of our life. However, when there is an accumulation of stressful events, and we are not able to switch off, it can lead to more serious health problems.

This is why it is important to recognize the causes, and symptoms of stress in order to better manage stressful situation.

  • If you notice that the symptoms last for a long period of time, and you feel they are affecting your everyday life you should speak to you doctor or seek professional support.

Ease the Stress

  • Pause or take a break and observe yourself when you feel stressed.
  • Try to identify the underlying causes.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help and accept help from those who offer it
  • Learn to say No
  • Be mindful
  • Sit relax and breathe.
  • Take time out. Do what you enjoy i.e. listen to music, go out meet friends, work out etc.
  • Get some restful sleep
  • Eat healthy food
  • Avoid excessive use of alcohol and drugs
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself. At the end, we all have bad days.
  • Create time and space for yourself. You deserve it!!
